Are you ready?

3,500, maybe 4,000, municipal managers all in the same place at the same time; it must be time again for the annual ICMA Conference. In the course of the next week, we will have so many options to be able to choose from as we come from near and far to join in Pittsburgh. Each of us may come for different reasons, whether it is to learn something new, network, reunite with old friends, meet new friends, or even get out of the office to clear your mind. Whatever the reason, the annual passage to the ICMA Conference always seems to offer that and so much more. This year seems to be no different.

As part of the daily grind each of us face, it easy to forget why we do what we do. Allow the next week to be an opportunity to recharge your batteries, make the most of your time, experience something you would not normally experience, and take advantage of the resources we have at our disposal and the amazing network of colleagues we can all learn from.

I personally have never been to Pittsburgh, but am looking forward to visiting. I think many may draw a parallel a few years from now when the ICMA Conference will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2011. Working in a municipality very close to Milwaukee, I look forward to the Pittsburgh experience and the similarities it presents.

If you have any suggestions on things to do, sights to see, or other thoughts to enhance the experience, please post your thoughts. I look forward to chatting with all of you as we venture our way through the next week.

I've never been to Pittsburgh either. I was watching the Travel Channel one night and they were doing a show on the top 10 places to eat a giant meal, or something along those lines. One place they featured was a diner-esque place in Pittsburgh that is open 24 hours and makes a giant sandwich with everything on it including the french fries.

I'm also just looking forward to cooler temperatures. The forecast for DFW today calls for it to be 92 and tomorrow 95 (plus humidity).
